Fave brands: Sukin review

It is very hard to find a brand that you know is 100% natural and 100% cruelty free these days. From what research I've done and what I have read, Sukin is mostly natural and cruelty free, but is not organic. When searching for natural and organic skin care, don't let the label fool you!!! Although it is indeed called Sukin organics, it says nowhere on the website that all the ingredients are actually organic!  Companies often try and trick you like this, and by saying some ingredients are organic, they let you believe it all is. 

Then again, having said all this Sukin is a much better alternative to many other skincare brands out there. Although, you don't have to spend all your money on bought products. The best thing to do is make your own skincare products! You can customise them to your skin type, plus you know what is in them. I have some great recipes that I can't wait to share with you!

Berry nice face mask

Face masks are a great way to perk up tired skin. Using a face mask once a week is a great way to treat your skin. One that I have been enjoying recently is this berry face mask. The strawberries contain salicylic acid, which is a key ingridients in many store bought acne treatments, meaning it will help with pimples, plus, soften and gently exfoliate your skin. Blueberries contain powerful antioxidants. The honey will kill any bad bacteria, and return moisture to dry skin, as well as being healing and soothing. The egg white will help to tighten the skin and is great for smooth, glowing skin. Over all, this mask leaves skin feeling soft, smooth, fresh and glowing. 

2 tsp egg whites (you can always save the rest for more face masks)

1 tbs fresh berries (I used strawberries and blueberries but you could use any berries you have)

1 tsp honey

Mash the berries untill fairly smooth. Add the rest of the ingredients, then mix well for about a minutes. Apply to skin. Leave on for 15 - 20 minutes, then rinse with cool water. Enjoy! Yields 1 - 2 uses. Will keep in the fridge for up to a week.

Oils and their benefits

Coconut oil

This oil is heavy and rich. It firms when cool, but when it's hot it melts into liquid.

USES

 Skin moisturiser, natural deodorant (add a pinch of baking soda to half a teaspoon of the oil), makeup remover, teeth whitener, hair smoothing serum and conditioner, and massage oil.

Almond oil

This oil is a lot lighter than other oils, so it's great in skin care products.

USES

Remove dark under-eye circles; remove makeup; treat chapped lips; leave-in conditioner, hair serum; relieves joint and muscle pain.

Avocado oil

From the fattiest fruit on earth (in a good way!), this oil is beautiful and moisturising. 

USES

Hair mask, skin moisturizer, and cooking oil. 

Olive oil

This oil, like the coconut oil, is great at deep moisturising, as it's lovely and rich.

USES

Skin moisturiser, hair serum, salad dressing, great in cooking.

Soothing tea

Recently I was a little bit sick and so I came up with this recipe. One teaspoon of honey can be added for a more soothing effect.

Lemon tea with herbs and ginger

• Half a cup water 
• 1 tbs lemon juice
• 1 small sprig of mint
• 1 small sprig of thyme 
• 1/2 tsp grated ginger, fresh

Add the water to a small saucepan and turn on to mediem heat. Roughly chop 

the mint and thyme. when the water is just about to boil, turn the heat down

to the lowest setting and add the rest of the ingredients. Stir occasionally for 15 minutes, then turn off heat and strain into your cup. Wait a few minutes for it to cool, then sip it slowly.
